The Zune, or Zune player, is a portable media player manufactured by Mircosoft.
Zune's primary competitor is the Apple iTunes/iPod product line. Zune players come in two variants, one hard-drive based and the other flash-memory based. Both play music, videos, podcasts, display images, and receive (but not record) FM radio. They can share files wirelessly with other Zunes, and via USB for Xbox 360s and Windows PCs. Any Zune can also be synched wirelessly with a Windows PC.
Zune software, which runs on Windows XP and Vista, allows users to manage files on the player, rip audio CDs, manage music, and buy songs, music videos, and TV shows at the Zune Marketplace online store using Microsoft Points or a Zune Pass which allows the subscriber to download unlimited songs temporarily and permanently keep ten favorite songs each month.
There are a number of different Zune models. Sometimes they are referred to as Zune 4, Zune 30, Zune 120, etc. These numbers refer to the amount of memory expressed in giga bytes. i.e., a Zune 120 would have 120 giga bytes of memory.
The Zune comes in different colors with some models having more colors than others. Popular Zune colors are red, blue, black, white, pink. Other limited editions and colors are sometimes available.
The Zune mp3 ís are powered by lithium-ion batteries. Battery life goes up the higher Zune models. The Zune 30 plays about 12 hrs of music while the Zune 80 and Zune 120 play about 30 hrs of music. The other models play about 24 hours.
